Swami on Freedom & Moksha

Some selected quotes from Swami about Moksha in the context of the 7th chakra and previous posts. These are taken from "Digest" but there are many more in the "Compendium of the teachings of SSSB". I did not think it necessary to post more than the below to connect the chakra of bliss and meditation with the perspective of swami teachings to the concepts of Moksha and freedom.

SWAMI ON FREEDOM

Quote 1
(taken from the Compendium)

"Society does not mean a large group of persons. Relationship with any other person is governed by social obligations which limits your freedom. Your right to wield a stick in public place is limited by the right of others to use the public places. Your freedom is subject to your duty towards other fellow beings. Moreover, freedom (swatantram) has to be construed in the correct way. Swatantram consists of two terms. Swa means Spirit. Swatantra mean acting according to the dictates of the Spirit. The spirit will never cause harm to others. It is the eternal witness present in everyone and desires the welfare of one and all. Hence Swatantra or real freedom is related to the Divine Will"

Quote 2 (Digest ...)

"First there is control of the outer sense, then control of inner senses, then a sense of balance, with a limitation to freedom because, freedom is the end of wisdom. Then comes pranayama and pratyahara"

Quote 3

"Brahma is described as having the nature of wisdom. That is why it has been said that the end of wisdom is freedom. So, freedom means Jnana Thatwa ot the light of wisdom, but not the unrestrained way in which we try to live our lives in this world".

Quote 4

"Freedom iis very necessary but before we enjoy freedom, we should understand what is meant by freedom. The freedom that is implied here should arise out of wisdom and out of character which you build as a result of your education"

Quote 5

Freedom is independence from externals. Care who is in need of the help of another person, thing or condition is a slave thereof. Perfect freedom is not given to any man on earth, becasue teh very meaning of mortal life is realtionship with and dependence on another. The lesser the number of wants, the greater the freedom. Hence, perfect freedom is absolute desirtelessness"

SWAMI ON MOKSHA

Quote 6 (Digest)

"Do not be afraid of reaching the goal of Moksha! Do not conceive that stage as a calamity. It is the end of calamity. It is death to all grief, grief that will never more be born.

Well, how do you prepare yourself for that stage? I must tell you that the answer is in the very word, Moksha, itself. It is self-explanatory.

"Mo" indicates Moha (Delusion; being deluded by the scintillating , the gaudy, the transitory, the temporary trash); and "Kysha" means Kshaya (Decline, Disappearance, Destruction). It requires you to keep the flights of your mind away from these deluding attractions, and on the straight path towards liberation"

Quote 7

"Moksha is an enless and infinte thing and dharma is equally limitless. The word Moksha does not represent something which is exhaustible and which you can purchase from a shop. Moksha is regarded as a limitless entity"

Quote 8

"At the gates of Moksha and Sakshathkara, there are three guards posted to ask you for your credentials. They are Santhi, Santosha, and Vichara; mental equilibrium, joy, contentment, inner peace, inquiry, discrimination etc..."

Quote 9

Moksha is the Samadhi (or Santhi) attained through the Sadhana or Chittasuddhi or cleansing of the inner man - the sadhana or negating the impressions that one gets through seeing, hearing, reading, learning, doing and getting done

When Prakriti (nature) merges in Paramatma (spirit), it is called Moksha"
