History, Memory & Ways of Knowing (list)

HIS-STORY
(causes of history)

Collective memory VS concensus reality VS ethno-centricity (his-story - ego identity)

Objective => Objective + Subjective => Subjective

A. Objective measures

(i) Anthropological
(ii) Literature
(iii) Science (carbon 14 dating methods etc.)
(iv) Genetic DNA tracing

B. Consensus reality

(i) Sociological observations
(ii) Language
(iii) Here-say (Chinese whispers)

C. Subjective (his-story)

(i) Memory
(ii) Ethno-centricity = individual memory of identity
(iii) Vedantic = Cosmic Maya of veiling power on memory in ether of space (vasanas). All a holographic projection out of you. You alone exist and that all sciences are in you.

Memory = Cosmic Ignorance projecting illusion of names and forms onto Brahma. At the individual level this is the anandamaya kosha and Chitta of the deep sleep state.

MEMORY (Subjective inference)

A) Vedantic Spiritual Memory vs B) Western Scientific Memory

Soul Memory (Chitta and Causal Body) VS Brain to Consciousness
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vasana in chitta or HEART & mind/(long re-incarnational )habits working through brain
=> Karma, Desire & Ignorance determines NATURE (inherent in genetic karmic blue print)

VS

NURTURE (conditioning through environment) operating through cognitive neuro-development =>
Limbic System & emotions & Hippocampus (short term memory) & Wiring in BRAIN
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A) SPIRITUAL CONCEPTS (of memory) - VEDANTIC

PHILOSOPHY

* Everything rest on memory of chitta - holographic individual to cosmic Maya as the veiling power of space

* Antarakarana is the inner instrument of man - chitta is one of the 4 components

* The Chitta and ahamkara reside in the heart (causal body) whilst the buddhi & manas make up the head

*Chitta is causal memory from many lives and these habits that cause re-birth are called vasanas in the heart

*Chitta is the another word for mind and works through the brain via the emotions/feelings

ASTROLOGY

*In astrology, the Moon represent the chitta and mind and Kethu, habits and veiling power of mind.

*In an astrology chart ... Moon, Mercury and the 4th house determine the emotions and consciousness

* Feelings keep habit of thoughts, emotions and body together. Primary feeling is the "I" feeling. When identified with objects = thoughts. When not is pure feeling ... power of feeling = power of consciousness that reflects in the brain

* Medja Shakti vs Viveka Shakti = power of mind from this power of consciousness (ie. imagination/Moon or thought projection) vs power of discrimination (Mercury)

SCIENCE OF AYURVEDA (Constitutional Medicine)

* In Ayurveda, 5 elements to 3 doshas influence memory (kapha - good long term memory, Pitta - sharp intellect & average memory, vata good short term memory but poor long term)

* Greater amounts of ether, satwa and purity in brain allows greater receptivity and expansion of mind

* Tejas related to effulgence of intellect in brain; Ojas of devotoin in heart related to cerebro-spinal fluid and receptivity (juice) of mind and memory

B) MATERIAL CONCEPTS (of memory) - WESTERN

PHYSICS - Science

*Nerves foundation of consciousness .. scafolding that allows consciousness to be felt,
i) neurotransmitters, nerves & nerve plexus, brain (thought)
ii) to endocrine hormones and blood of glands
(emotion)

*Brains & Consciousness (physics of electro-magnetism, bio-chemistry, neuro-biology, neuro-psychology, philosophy of consciousness)

*Holographic brains, Quantum Mechanics (and free will to micro-tubules in mitochondria) and Wholeness of Bhors theories

MEDICAL - Chemistry of Consciousness

* The brain: Mind maps - haemoragic or clot stokes as well as head injuries are function/location specific...lobes, left and right side of brains to opposite sides of body (left logic to right side of body vs right visuo-spatial hemisphere to left side of body), specific areas etc....

*Computer memory (hard drive) vs neural wiring of synapses - firing, probability, plasticity

* Limbic emotion (emotion) vs Hippocampus (short term memory) vs Wiring of brain (long term)

* Visual vs Auditory memories; Associative vs photographic

* Chemistry of consciousness: Brain pathways, excitation vs inhibition, nor adrenaline, serotinei, dopamine etc....

METAPHYSICS (synthesis) - sacred geometry of brain and nature - universal

*Jung - archetypes, collective unconsciouss - superconscious - overmind - Jyotish, Vastu, sacred geometry => mind recognises harmony and symmetry => allows transition from memory to direct perception of reality in present ie. one with object of cognition

* Left and right hemispheres and sacred geometry => connect to superconscious through symbol conceptual orientation of right brain (VEDANTA) to linear time orientated left brain (SCIENCE)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRIANGLE OF BRAIN (Left = Western vs Central Metaphysics vs Right = Vedantic)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Pineal Gland to Thousand Petalled Lotus to Cosmic Knowledge)
CENTRAL
CORPUS CALLOSUM
(between hemispheres)

Associative Tool
&
Metaphoric Language
Eg. Metaphysics

Astronomy & Astrology
(Geometry/Geography)

The Computer------------(place)------------The Brain

HUMANITIES
Psychology
Logic---------------------------------------------------Language
(measure)---------------------------------------(word = SANSKRIT)

EGOCENTRIC TRIANGLE

SCIENCES---------------------------------------------VEDIC ARTS
LEFT BRAIN---------------------------------------------------RIGHT BRAIN

Mathematics (number)----------Symmetry & Harmony----------(note) Music
(light & time)----------(Sacred Geometry)----------(sound & space)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: That above triangle is another avenue for learning types eg. Left brain (Science), right brain (Art of Sanskrit Vedantic correspondence) or abstract brain (Metaphysics & Jyotish) through number, note or metaphor.

This concept can be taken further for each angle of the triangle ie. For maths corner, learning can also be through left brain (secular mathematics), right brain (vedic maths short cuts) or metaphoric (metaphysical) learning of sacred geometry (eg. Greek & Vastu) with Jyotish/Astronomy (personal)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Sacred geometry art and music such as mandalas, yantra and mantra .. harmonise hemisphere to Cosmic mind (takes left through right to integration via corpus callosum to balance in pineal gland with accumulation on light with electro-magnetic energy not dissipated in thought and memory once developed and integrated)

* 5 in metaphysics and man => to 9 universal (ie. jyotish) up 7 levels to reach cosmic 1,008 petalled lotus (yogic)

* Perhaps quantum leaps in the brain with integration, more of brains power can be used

* Light source of feeling of "I" from the heart through the limbic system to the brain (ie. limbic systems connects chitta of heart to manas of brain for the intellect to interpret memory on the impression from the 5 senses)

CAUSES OF MEMORY LOSS

NATURAL

(i) Genetic predisposition
(ii) Weak planets (Notably, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th house)
(iii) Ayurvedically (high or disorder of vata, weak pitta)
(iv) 25 years brains cell start dying (brain hard wired - less plasticity)

ENVIRONMENTAL

(i) Diet
(ii)Smoking leading to hardening of arteries in brain
(iii) Chemical (drugs) & environmental toxins

ACQUIRED

(i) No discipline of mind .. poor organisation leads to poor mental structure for time orientated memory acquisition
(ii) Talking too much without deliberation
(iii) Do not use it you lose it
(iv) According to Swami, not skilling knowledge results in loss of balance and mental power (ie. the more you ahve but do not apply the more you can lose your mental balance and memory)
(V) Yogic - pranayama/kundalini disorders

ALZEIMERS VS DEMENTIAL

Aetiology, diference between two, prevention

WAYS TO IMPROVE MEMORY

COSMIC

Gems - emerald on the little finger

DIET & HERBS

Almonds, walnuts, DHA, vitamins, minerals, co-enzymes etc.
Herbal - brahmi, skullcap etc...
siddha medicine - gold colloids etc.

LIFE STYLE

Work
Gayatri mantra
Meditation & Silence
Mental games & hobbies - chess, cross words, jyotish
Music

WAYS OF KNOWING (WEST VS VEDIC)

WEST SPECIFIC SCIENTIFIC:

Affferent nerves (skin, proprioceptive joints, muscles spindles, autonomic) to spinal cord, brainstem, 12 cranial nerves, mid brain, 5 Lobes, brain maps, left and right hemishperes, corpus callosum, frontal higher cortical centres etc... Communication via endocrinal and nervous systems

vs

VEDANTIC GENERAL METAPHYSICAL
Mahat (Cosmic mind) to Buddhi of discrimination( Vijmaya Kosha) via Manas of perception through the 5 senses. Communication includes nadis

WAYS OF KNOWING in the WEST (LEFT BRAIN - logic/linear)

Ranges from the Greek philosophers of Socrates/Plato/Aristotle to the scientific age of Descartes/Bacon to the mathematics of language and meaningful cognitive discourse of Wittengstein and the British philsophers of Russel to more recently the analytical philosophy of Shaw.

WESTERN PHILOSOPHY & MIND

Socrates/Aristotle (Theory of knowledge & Logic) =>
Descartes to Bacon to Russel =>Science of brains to consciousness

Western Philosophy => logic, theory of knowledge, aesthetics, metaphysics, ethics

Logic & Theory of Knowledge =>

1. Greek Socratic = theory of knowledge (skepticism based on axioms, assumptions, bias, deductive and inductive logic)

2. Logic = Aristotle (categories)

3. Scientific Method (Descartes to Bacon)

4. Empiricists (Locke etc.)

5. Logical positivists (Shaw/Wittengstein)

6. Analytical (Russel)

7. Research Methods - questionnaire etc...., outcome measures

8. Statistics - normal curve, statistical significance, etc...

9. Computer -
program with multi-regression measures, pattern detection

Perhaps a correlation can be made to the fact that most western philosophers are more related to the dualistic school of thought of Vedanta which entertains causality and make reference to comparisons between the analytical and logical approach of western philosophy and a science of consciousness to those of Vedanta and its metaphysical assumptions based on consciousness to non-dualism.
